Do you ever wonder or worry whether or not you have done all you should to meet a calling or an opportunity in your life? Have you ever questioned whether you were “fulfilling your mission” with God in a particular area?

Maybe it’s because I am four weeks away from sending my last child off to college that the question rumbles around in my head from time to time: “Have I done all I need to do to equip this last kid to fly fully and confidently from the nest?”

In my last blog I wrote about shifting your gaze from your circumstances to the reality of the gospel, the new life we have in Christ, and the way He is always at work in us (even if we cannot sense it at all times).

Psalm 111:3 says, “Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty” (NLT).

One way to shift your gaze Godward is to intentionally pursue and enjoy God’s majesty.

This morning I was struck by the fact that I can barely remember Easter.

I couldn’t recall anything about the date or celebration of Easter in my life this year—not even what month it was in without consulting a calendar. I had a vague sense that I never finished out my Lenten practice of watching episodes of The Chosen.

My inability to locate a memory of Easter 2026 was immediately accompanied by another upsetting realization: my struggle to remember Easter is more than just a calendar and memory-related fact.

“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.” Psalm 91:2 (NLT)

This morning, I decided this needs to become my daily declaration. I have recently been in a season of such challenge and demand that I have forgotten the truth declared here. Specifically, I have forgotten the phrase immediately following the colon.

He alone is my refuge…

Oh how 2026 didn’t open the way I thought it would.

The call came through about 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. I excused myself from the group of friends I was with to take the call from my Dad. An unfamiliar voice greeted me. An EMT was calling on his phone to let me know they were taking my 85-year-old dad to the ER with concerning O2 sats and extremely elevated heart rate.

I voice-text notes and reminders to myself, especially when I am writing. For some reason, I get a lot of ideas when I am driving, so voice-texting notes is how I capture those thoughts.

I discovered a funny thing about auto correct while writing my Bible study, Return and Rest. Every time I said the word intimacy, auto correct spelled it into-the-sea.
